Catholic moral theologian strongly rejects latest incarnation of assisted suicide

"Fundamental immorality"

Catholic ethicist Fr. Gerald Coleman has come out strongly against a new, private attempt to help the terminally ill commit suicide.

Coleman, former rector of St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park and now vice president for ethics for the Daughters of Charity Health System and a lecturer in moral theology at Santa Clara University, took aim at End of Life Consultation Service, formed by two United Church of Christ ministers in response to the defeat last June of the "California Compassionate Choices Act," a bill that would have legalized physician assisted suicide in California.
