Obama Campaign Refuses to Deny Senator Obama Supports Taxpayer Funded Abortions and That he Would Have People of Faith Pay for Them

WASHINGTON, July 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- On Tuesday, July 8, The Christian Defense Coalition launched a national campaign called, "Barack Obama: The Abortion President."

(The Abortion President campaign is holding events in southern California this Sunday. See update below.)

As part of this campaign, the Christian Defense Coalition had large posters of Senator Obama dressed up like Uncle Sam saying, "I Want You to Pay for Abortions."

The group stressed that Senator Obama would have Catholics and Evangelicals pay for abortions through his health care plan and other policies.

In an official response to the Christian Defense Coalition's efforts Obama campaign spokesperson Nick Shapiro said, "...understands that the best way to reduce the need for abortions is to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. He is committed to commonsense solutions to achieve that objective and to changing the tone of the discourse which for too long has devolved into false and negative attacks such as this that do nothing to accomplish that goal."

Nowhere in the Obama response they did not deny that he supports taxpayer funded abortions nor did they point out any "false attacks" made by the Christian Defense Coalition.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states, "It is clear, that if elected, Senator Obama would be the most pro-abortion President in American history. His views are so radical and extreme that he would have Catholics, Evangelicals and other people of faith pay for abortions. When the Obama campaign had a chance to deny he supported taxpayer funded abortions, they refused to do so. The reason for that is simple. Senator Obama supports taxpayer funded abortions and has blocked legislation that would have prohibited public funds from being used for abortions.

"Senator Obama's radical and extreme support of abortion shows he is not a progressive candidate interested in human rights and social justice. Nor can he put forward his deep faith convictions while at the same time supporting violence against children and diminishing women through abortion."

*Important Update:* As part of the "The Abortion President" campaign, members of the faith community will be leading prayer vigils and demonstrations in southern California. On Sunday, July 13, at 1:00 P.M., a large number of young people will be calling for Senator Obama to change his radical pro-abortion policies. That will be at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.

Earlier in the day, at 11:00 A.M., there will be demonstrations at the San Diego Convention Center.
