Pro-Life Reaction to Gov. Palin's Policy Speech Addressing Special Needs Children

SBA List Candidate Fund President: Gov. Sarah Palin "sees the value, necessity, and joy inherent in every human life."

WASHINGTON, October 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, the President of the Susan B. Anthony List commented on this morning's speech by Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin addressing her commitment to defending children with special needs:

"Very rarely does an issue in the public forum speak to the heart so poignantly as protecting children with special needs. Governor Sarah Palin offers compassion and concrete help to those of us hungry for information, support and solutions," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List. "Why does Sarah have such a beautiful perspective? Because she sees the value, necessity, and joy inherent in every human life."

Governor Sarah Palin has a six month old son, Trig, who has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Recent statistics show that in the U.S., approximately 90% of Down Syndrome diagnoses end with the mother choosing abortion.

"Today Governor Palin pointed to the power, strength and influence that those with special needs can have in our homes and our nation. They are not to be pitied; in profound ways, they are to be emulated. Sarah Palin brings many special people and their families out of the shadows and into the light. They have so much to be proud of and her vocal leadership inspires them to them know it."

Since being nominated as the GOP Vice Presidential candidate, Palin has made support for families of children with special needs a significant priority on her campaign. Today she offered her first policy speech on the issue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In her remarks, Governor Palin advocated school choice opportunities for children with special needs, fully funding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and lowering taxes on special needs trusts, which families set up to cover long term care needs for disabled children.
