It is good news that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops has withdrawn its support from the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. That was the right thing to do and the USCCB should be congratulated. National Catholic Bishops conferences should be taking far more such actions given the growing wave of information about numerous inappropriate groups funded by or otherwise associated with these conferences. It is time for a major housecleaning.

More on Harry Potter today. Universal Studios is capitalizing on the popular phenomenon while Michael O'Brien, despite frequent hostile reaction from all sides of the religious and non-religious spectrum, releases a book with warnings about the spiritual dangers of Potter.

Cardinal Marc Ouellet had been outstanding these past several days with his comments about abortion. He deserves much support and encouragement. Spreading the word about the Campaign Life Coalition petition is one way of providing that support for this Canadian Religious leader who is defying the usual mold of Canadian episcopal timidity.
