Future of Illinois Nativity Scenes: Harry & Joseph?

Good morning,

As the Illinois General Assembly prepares for a possible vote on a “civil unions” bill in Springfield today, please see below for a statement from Peter Breen, executive director and legal counsel at the Chicago-based Thomas More Society, calling for the defense of marriage, especially during the Christmas season.

“During the Christmas season, we celebrate the Holy Family – Joseph the husband and father, Mary the wife and mother, and the newborn Baby Jesus. With Nativity Scenes going up across our state and nation, the Illinois General Assembly should be reaffirming the value of strong families, like the Holy Family. Instead, the Assembly is considering a ‘civil unions’ bill that raises same-sex unions to the same level as marriage between one man and one woman. This bill, which devalues the notion of family and drastically redefines what makes a family unit, is a 'lump of coal' that Illinois Christians were not expecting from their elected officials as they prepare for Christmas.”
