Abortion Drug Kills Girl in Portugal, Caused Deadly Infection
The dangerous RU 486 (mifepristone) abortion drug has caused yet another death in Europe by subjecting a 16-year-old girl in Portugal to a deadly infection that claimed her life. The infection is the same as one that took the lives of several women in the United States, who used the abortion pill.

The Portuguese girl in question died after an abortion with the RU 486 abortion drug caused Clostridium sordellii septic shock. Although girls have died in European nations the United Kingdom, France and Sweden from using the abortion drug, this represents the first case of the rare but deadly infection claiming the life of someone taking the abortion pill as happened in the United States.

The information about the abortion death came in the abstract of a study accepted for publication and submitted to the recent 21st European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) conference held from May 7-10 in Milan, Italy. The dead involved the teenage girl from Portugal using mifepristone and misoprostol to cause an abortion of her unborn child.

Monty Patterson, the father of Holly Patterson, one of a handful of women in the United States to have died after developing the infection following usage of the abortion drug, says the death of the Portuguese girl makes it clear the dangerous nature of the abortion drug is a worldwide problem.

This may be the first reported global case that needs to be further investigated as part of the ongoing review of C. sordellii medical abortion deaths that includes my daughter, Holly Patterson and others in the United States and Canada, he told LifeNews.com.

In July 2009, the European maker of the abortion drug told Italian officials that it has killed dozens of women in Europe alone and that the total number of known worldwide deaths from the abortion drug thought to be about 15 is much higher. At the time, European abortion drug maker Exelgy told the Italian Pharmaceuticals Agency (AIFA) that 29 women have died from it. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/16/abortion-drug-kills-girl-in-portugal-caused-deadly-infection/

Donald Trump Not Running for GOP Nod for President in 2012
Donald Trump said today he will not seek the Republican nomination for president, after stoking speculation with statements and speeches taking on pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

After months of speculation about his future plans, Trump released a statement today saying, After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the Presidency.

This decision does not come easily or without regret; especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country, he added. I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election. I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.

Trump appears ready to endorse the Republican nominee against Obama.

I look forward to supporting the candidate who is the most qualified to help us tackle our country s most important issues and am hopeful that, when this person emerges, he or she will have the courage to take on the challenges of the Office and be the agent of change that this country so desperately needs, he said.

Trump withdrew as a potential Republican candidate for president on the same day NBC announced it would renew his television show, The Apprentice, for another season. He had been pressured to tell the network whether he would head the program so it can pitch advertisers for the Fall. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/16/donald-trump-not-running-for-gop-nod-for-president-in-2012/

Huckabee Decision Not to Run Shakes Up GOP Presidential Race
Governor Mike Huckabee, who is strongly pro-life, has decided against putting together a bid for the GOP nomination to face pro-abortion President Barack Obama in 2012. His decision significantly shakes up the race.

Huckabee said that, while signs pointed to him having the ability to win not only the nomination but also the general election next Fall, he didn t have the fire in the belly to run a presidential race.

The past few weeks, the external signs and signals and answers to many of the obstacles point strongly toward running. When I am with people encouraging me to run, it s easy to feel the strength of their partnership and commitment to help me to the finish line, he said. Only when I was alone, in quiet and reflective moments did I have not only clarity, but an inexplicable inner peace a peace that exceeds human understanding. All the factors say GO, but my heart says NO. And that is the decision I have made and in it have finally found resolution. I don t fully understand it myself but I m sure the pundits will.

Huckabee seemed to acknowledge that, unlike in 2008, he had a good shot at putting together the kind of campaign that would win the nomination and he pointed to the many polls showing him either the frontrunner or a leading candidate nationally and in many of the early primary and caucus states.

Even though I wasn t actively establishing a campaign organization or seeking financial support to run again, polls have consistently put me at or near the top to be the Republican nominee, he said. Concerns that I had about raising the necessary funds to be competitive or being able to win in states outside the South were answered when signs of strong financial support materialized and when polls showed me winning in states like Pennsylvania, Maine, and even New Jersey. That kind of shattered the notion that I was only a regional candidate or only supported by social conservatives. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/15/huckabee-decision-not-to-run-shakes-up-gop-presidential-race/

Planned Parenthood May Have Helped Sex Traffickers in Indiana
With the arrest of people involved in a sex trafficking ring in central Indiana, a state pro-life group wants to know if the Planned Parenthood abortion business offered the operators abortions or other services?

Federal authorities announced multiple arrests on May 4 in connection to a multi-state human-trafficking ring in which women were brought across U.S. borders to serve as prostitutes in the Hispanic community on Indianapolis northwest side. According to U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett, the human trafficking ring had been operating in Indianapolis for several years.

While officials were monitoring the actual human traffickers, staff at the organization Live Action conducted a sting operation in other states to determine whether Planned Parenthood officials would help arrange abortions for the girls victimized by sex traffickers. In New Jersey, Virginia and other states, Live Action found Planned Parenthood staff not only willing to arrange for abortions but ready to help the sex traffickers avoid parental involvement laws and giving them advice on how to return the girls to the sex trade faster following the abortion.

On January 18, Planned Parenthood Federation of America president Cecile Richards told the media the abortion business sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder indicating that multi-state visits [to Planned Parenthood offices] from men claiming to be engaged in sex trafficking of minors may be a hoax. Richards letter was sent in advance of the release of undercover videos from Live Action showing the results of the sting operation.

In her letters, Richards said the abortion business found Live Action had conducted its undercover investigation in Indiana. However, Live Action has told Indiana Right to Life that it had no involvement with any undercover operations in Indiana in which they claimed to be involved in a human trafficking ring. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/16/planned-parenthood-may-have-helpeded-sex-traffickers-in-indiana/

Poll: 38 Percent of Americans Won t Vote for Obama in 2012
A new Politico-George Washington University poll finds 38 percent of Americans say they will definitely not vote for President Barack Obama when he seeks re-election in 2012 against one of several Republicans.

The poll is good news for pro-life advocates looking to replace the man who has become perhaps the most pro-abortion president in history, but the 38 percent figure is still 12 percent short of getting a majority of the nation to agree to replacing Obama next year. Still, some of the numbers in the poll suggest voters leaning against Obama or in the undecided category may ultimately vote against him because they are upset with the job he s done, or not done, as president.

The survey found sixty percent (60%) of voters believe the country is on the wrong track, including a strong majority of Independents (61%) who hold this negative view of how things are going in the country.

Although Obama received a bump from the killing of terrorist mastermind Osama bin Ladin, voters appear to remain focused on economic and personal finance issues as the economy and jobs (28%) and government spending and the budget deficit (20%) were named as the top issues for the 2012 election. Though Obama s job approval rating has received an expected bump to majority support (52%), strong majorities of voters disapprove of his job performance on the economy and jobs (57% disapprove) and on the federal budget and spending (61%). Obama enjoys only a four point advantage over Congressional Republicans on jobs (47%-43%) while Congressional Republicans enjoy a three point advantage over President Obama on controlling the deficit (47%-44%), the poll indicates. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/16/poll-38-percent-of-americans-wont-vote-for-obama-in-2012/

ACLU Founder Roger Baldwin Was Strong Abortion Supporter
As someone with the highly unusual task of researching old, declassified Soviet and Communist Party USA archives, I often get quizzical looks as to why certain things from the distant past still matter.

Well, it s indeed true that past is often prologue. And it s striking to see how something in communist archives from, say, the 1920s, pertains to America right now.

That certainly seems the case with what I ve found on the American Civil Liberties Union, whether challenging Christmas carols in public schools seven decades ago, or, currently, trying to compel Catholic hospitals to do abortions, or denouncing the Catholic bishops for opposing birth-control funding in healthcare legislation.

How ironic that I would find seeds of these things in communist archives, or, even more directly, in the pro-communist or pro-Soviet writings of the ACLU s founders.

The ACLU s early atheism is no surprise; its founders sympathies toward Bolshevism and the Soviet state are not disconnected from that atheism. Yet, most interesting, and unexpected, is how the ACLU s founders views on the Leninist-Stalinist state s advancement of abortion and birth control are connected symbolically, at the least to the organization s advancement of abortion and birth control today.
Consider the founder of the ACLU, Roger Baldwin. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/16/aclu-founder-roger-baldwin-was-strong-abortion-supporter/

New Zealand Schools Arranging Secret Teen Abortions
New Zealand schools are coming under criticism from parents of teenage girls who obtained secret abortions arranged by school officials without their parents knowledge or consent.

One mother interviewed by the Sunday Star Times newspaper said she was horrified to learn her daughter had an abortion of her granddaughter four days after the abortion procedure took place. She had confronted her daughter about tearful breakdowns that occurred after the abortion and the teen was scared to inform her mother about the abortion.

I was horrified. Horrified that she d had to go through that on her own, and horrified her friends and counselors had felt that she shouldn t talk to us, she said.

After her daughter s friends informed her the school arranged for the abortion, she told the newspaper, I didn t know that they could do that and said it was wrong for teachers to inform parents about minor behavioral or scholastic issues but to withhold information about a major surgical procedure like an abortion.

The mother also told the Times that the school counselor who arranged for the abortion did not provide other advice to her daughter and asked whether she had told her parents but did not follow up when informed the teen had not done so. She described the counselor as not forthcoming and said follow-up counseling and support after the abortion was nonexistent. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/16/new-zealand-schools-arranging-secret-teen-abortions/
