Hillary Clinton Opposes State Dept Bill Over Abortion $ Cuts
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is warning members of the U.S. House that she will personally urge pro-abortion President Barack Obama to veto a State Department funding bill over cuts to groups that perform and promote abortions.

As LifeNews has reported, House Republicans have put forward an appropriations bill that would put the Mexico City Policy back in place. The policy, which President Barack Obama ditched during his first week in office, prevents the funding of groups that promote or perform abortions overseas.

Planned Parenthood is one of the major recipients of millions of dollars through the State Department and the USAID program and the abortion business refused to stop doing abortions or lobbying other nations to change their pro-life laws during the Bush administration so it could receive funds for non-abortion family planning services. The abortion business is lobbying Congress to reject the bill and Clinton took its side today.

Clinton, in the letter, according to CNN, called the bill debilitating to my efforts to carry out a considered foreign policy and diplomacy and said she will recommend personally that Obama veto the bill. She addressed the letter to pro-life Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Florida Republican who is the chair of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Clinton listed a number of onerous provisions in the bill on unrelated political issues, but included the reinstatement and expansion of the Mexico City Policy as one of those provisions she opposes. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/28/hillary-clinton-opposes-state-dept-bill-over-abortion-cuts/

Paperwork Mistake Costs Ohio Planned Parenthood $5 Million
The Cincinnati, Ohio Planned Parenthood abortion business cost itself more than $5 million in taxpayer funds thanks to an incomplete application. The result may be fitting given that it has covered up cases of sexual abuse of minors.

Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region lost $5.05 million in federal and state grants that it could have received over the next five years, according to the Dayton Daily News. The abortion business tells the newspaper it will now have to start charging people for non-abortion services, rather than cutting out abortions and providing them at no cost.

Laurie Housemeyer, director of public affairs for Planned Parenthood, told the News that the taxpayer funding represented 12 percent of its annual budget, but it was notified this month that its improper application cost it funds. A state health department official said the application received a low score because it was incomplete.

That is hard to believe, Housemeyer said. We have a very thorough and qualified grant writer.

The loss of federal funding comes after the abortion business also recently lost its CEO Becki Brenner, though Housemeyer said the two are not related. She indicated the abortion agency would try to make up for the funding loss with private donations but said the abortion business, which employs 90 people, will not cut staff or close any locations.

Paula Westwood, Executive Director of Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati commented on the news and said other options exist for women who want the same services Planned Parenthood provides but without supporting an abortion organization. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/28/paperwork-mistake-costs-ohio-planned-parenthood-5-million/

Planned Parenthood Abortion Practitioner Loses Medical License
An abortion practitioner who works on a contract basis for Planned Parenthood in California has had his medical licensed suspended by the California Medical Board and he now faces a hearing before an administrative judge on August 2.

Jesse James Joplin has worked for the Planned Parenthood abortion business for 27 years, but the California Catholic Daily indicates the Medical Board issued an interim suspension order July 25 making it so his days as a supervising physician at Planned Parenthood-Mar Monte in San Jose may be over.

The state medical board, months ago, cracked down on Joplin over a series of alcohol-related convictions over the last few years starting with a California Highway Patrol officer finding marijuana and alcohol in his vehicle during a 2007 traffic stop for speeding. Joplin pleaded no contest, according to the newspaper, on charges of reckless driving involving alcohol, drugs, or both.

Joplin was again arrested after his erratic driving prompted motorists to call authorities in September 2009 and a March 2010 incident resulted in a misdemeanor conviction of drunken driving and he reportedly chose to go to jail rather than perform community service.

The medical board reportedly took its initial actions against Joplin on April 22 but also issued a stay of its decision and placed Joplin on probation for seven years. Cal Catholic indicates that the decision at the time made it so, if Joplin violated any of the conditions of his probationary status, his medical license would be suspended. Those conditions included complete abstention from drugs and alcohol, random urine testing four times monthly, a psychiatric evaluation, monitoring from an independent physician, and relinquishing his role as a supervising doctor. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/28/planned-parenthood-abortion-practitioner-loses-medical-license/

Senate Committee Skips Vote on Pro-Abortion Judge Steve Six
The Senate Judiciary Committee today skipped a vote on pro-abortion federal appeals court judicial nominee Steve Six, an abortion advocate President Barack Obama wants to place on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The chairman of the committee, pro-abortion Sen, Pat Leahy of Vermont, had intended to bring up Six for a vote, but some last-minute wrangling from Six home state senators, pro-life Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran, appeared to stall the nomination. Although President Barack Obama would have to withdraw the nomination for it to be officially scrubbed, it appears the repeated planning and reversal of votes on Six is an indication that Six s nomination is not going forward.

Roberts and Moran sent Leahy a letter that, according to an AP report, is only coming to light today. The two have faced calls and emails from pro-life groups asking them to oppose Six because he stalled an investigation into the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Whereas we have previously stated our opposition to this nomination, we are respectfully requesting that the Committee not process this nominee, the Kansas senators wrote. We appreciate and respect the committee process in vetting all federal court nominees. We regret that we cannot support Mr. Six. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/28/senate-committee-skips-vote-on-pro-abortion-judge-steve-six/

North Carolina Overrides Perdue Veto, Pro-Life Bill Becomes Law
The North Carolina state Senate completed the bid to overturn a veto by pro-abortion Gov. Bev Perdue of a bill that would allow women a chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn children.

North Carolina lawmakers have approved legislation to help women avoid abortions and the bill includes the ultrasound provision and a waiting period. The measure helps women obtain information about abortion s risks and alternatives they may not otherwise receive before an abortion. The bill also allows women a chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn baby, something abortion centers routinely do but don t let women see.

The measure, which also has a 24-hour waiting period component, is designed to help women find positive abortion alternatives. The Woman s Right to Know bill, H 854, is similar to legislation other states have passed and is proven to reduce abortions. When women are given information about abortion that Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses don t routinely provide, they frequently consider alternatives.

The House voted 72-47 in favor of the veto override and the Senate followed suit today by voting 29-19 as Sen. Stan Bingham, a Republican who voted against the bill in June, left the building before the override vote. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/28/north-carolina-overrides-perdue-veto-pro-life-bill-becomes-law/

Rick Perry: States Should Have the Right to Ban Abortions
Texas Gov. Rick Perry restated his views against abortion late Wednesday when he firmed up his position favoring the 10th Amendment when it comes to abortion. Perry is a strong states rights advocate and believes states should be able to ban abortions.

You either have to believe in the 10th Amendment or you don t, Perry told reporters Wednesday night, according to ABC News. You can t believe in the 10th Amendment for a few issues and then [for] something that doesn t suit you say, We d rather not have states decide that.

Although the 10th Amendment says The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people, the Supreme Court issued a decision in 1973 in the Roe v. Wade case saying that state laws prohibiting abortions could no longer be enforced. The Roe case came out of Texas and involved a pro-abortion attorney, Sarah Weddington, who turned Norma McCorvey s lawsuit seeking a divorce into a case establishing legalized abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/28/rick-perry-states-should-have-the-right-to-ban-abortions/

British National Health Service Extends Rationing to Surgeries
The National Health Service in England is increasingly rationing standard operations that patients may have normally taken for granted in a move that worries bioethicists in the United States.

A new report in The Independent reveals how hip replacements, cataract surgery and tonsil removal are among the many operations that two-thirds of health trusts in England are now putting on a non-urgent list in an attempt to help save the government-run health care program $20 billion over the next four years. The newspaper reveals one third of health trusts have already expanded the list of rationed procedures in the last 12 months and others are expected to follow suit.

Some of the example of rationed surgical procedures include limiting hip replacements to those experiencing severe pain, cataract operations are on hold for those whose eyesight problems don t yet affect their ability to perform on the job, and patients with varicose veins will only be allowed operations if they are experiencing pain or internal bleeding.

The figures come from a new survey of 111 hospitals by an industry magazine and the survey also showed doctors are concerned about the effect the rationing will have on their relationships with their patients.

Birmingham and east London are reportedly the areas where rationing has expanded the fastest but Medway and Dorset are moving in that direction as well. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/28/british-national-health-service-extends-rationing-to-surgeries/
