WASHINGTON, Sept. 27, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The 19th Annual International Prayer and Fasting (October 1-9, 2011) is mobilizing people all over the world to pray and fast as a counter attack to destructive global events and natural disasters.

The global economy is in crisis. Our nation, the United States of America is in crisis. This year 2011, has been the costliest year for natural disasters. There has been widespread flooding in New Zealand, massive earthquakes in Japan and other parts of the world which caused volcanoes to erupt in Chile, Iceland and Indonesia. The economic collapse of 2011 follows four years of relentless economic catastrophes.

The US has experienced major flooding caused by Hurricane Irene, power outages in the East Coast, East Coast earthquake (5.8), mega quake hitting Japan (9.0), billion-dollar disasters worldwide. We need to pray and fast like never before for our families, our nation and our world. Pope John Paul II and Blessed Mother Theresa were major supporters of this prayer movement.

In October of this year, the coalition is calling all people to unite for nine days of prayer and fasting for the conversion of nations, for world peace and to promote the culture of life. This year's theme for our troubled world is Hope of the Nations.
