Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

Daily Catholic Quote from Dr. Janet Smith

(unborn child)

"Now, this is the most amazing thing when you think about it. Sperm, this little sperm, it does not have an immortal soul. And the ovum, you see, it does not have an immortal soul. And when the two come together, where does that immortal soul come from? The sperm doesn't carry it. The egg doesn't carry it. Where does it come from? It comes from a new act of creation by God. In each act of conception, there needs to be a new act of creation by God." (Dr. Janet Smith; Contraception, Why Not?)

And Dr. Smith adds: "We live in a culture in which condoms can be handed out in schools and Bibles can't. And I think that tells you everything you need to know about our society."

You might also listen to this debate between Janet Smith and Charles Curran on Contraception. It's a rare occurrence to listen to them as they debate each other. Even though the debate took place a few years ago, you will find the presentations and rebuttals still very meaningful for our modern society.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Youth): "Snappy new short video on the Impact of the Pill on Relationships"This animated video uses the studies I have discovered that shows how the chemical contraceptives impact negatively on relationships.  It moves quickly and provides lots of useful information. See the FAQs about "Evolutionary Desirability" for a response to a question about a claim of this video. (Janet E. Smith, December 19, 2012)

(Youth): "Free condoms for High School Students in Philly" - It is impossible for mature, intelligent adults to think this is a good idea. My heart breaks for the teenagers of Philly. There will be more STIs, more unwanted pregnancies, more heartbreak, more poverty, etc. When will we wise up? (Janet E. Smith, December 23, 2012)

ITEM #1: "Sanctity of Human Life Act", and the March For Life "Principles 2013"

When erroneous science, usually called "scientific fraud", is knowingly used in any endeavor it is bad enough. But when such erroneous science is knowingly used in any legal laws, regulations, guidelines, etc., the fraud becomes legalized and the deadly consequences are considerably magnified. Regardless if the term "conception" or "fertilization" is used, even the new bill's title would provide "sanctity" to some but not to all human lives.

Having presented twice as a speaker in the past at the March For Life, I remain puzzled as to why they continue to knowingly use similar erroneous "science", even so far as to re-define the phrase "from the beginning of each human being's life" by erroneously equating that with "fertilization" only.

ITEM #2: Surrogacy services in China guarantee a boy for US$160,000

With one in every eight married couples in China unable to produce children, the rising trend of infertility has led to huge market demand for surrogacy services at ever increasing prices. An agency in Xiamen offers a service which "guarantees the birth of a boy," which costs up to 1 million yuan (US$160,000). If the couple wants to have twins, they have to pay 200,000 yuan (US$32,000) extra, reports Want Daily, our Chinese-language sister newspaper.

ITEM #3: Violence against women in India: change a culture that accepts degradation of humans

All India Christian Council (AICC) report. Funeral of the New Delhi gang rape victim celebrated this morning. Crimes against women permeates Indian society: rapes, sex-selective abortions, discrimination in school and at work. The Dalai Lama: "Concerned about the degeneration of moral values in India."

****************************************

ITEM #4: Like India, Nepal is powerless against rising violence against women

Figures from 2012 show a terrible picture. Sixty-four per cent of Nepali women are victims of domestic and gender-based abuse. About 71 per cent of all victims between 26 and 35 years of age are deemed at risk. For sociologists, poverty is the main cause. Activist says, "We shall not mark New Year's celebration. We shall weep for all those who have died".

ITEM #5: Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons - Part I

Following are excerpts from the Vatican document regarding legal recognition to unions between homosexual persons. The full document with extensive footnotes may be accessed at the Vatican website.

Part I - http://catholiccitizens.org/press/pressview.asp?c=54498
Part II - http://catholiccitizens.org/press/pressview.asp?c=54499

ITEM #6: Ultrasound parties: New frontier in pregnancy oversharing

The ultrasound tech squirts gel on her belly, the expectant mom looks at the beating heart on the flickering screen, and a dozen friends and family members huddle in for a closer look -- drinks in hand. Welcome to the new frontier in pregnancy oversharing: the ultrasound party. Good luck selecting the right gift. Thanks to improved ultrasound technology, parents-to-be can now invite friends and family to share in an intimate viewing of baby in utero.

ITEM #7 Scientists discover aborted baby cells living in mothers' brains

Scientific American termed the research findings another way: "Scientists discover children's cells living in mothers' brains." But I wanted to drive home a touching point: Mothers who terminate their pregnancies apparently don't completely rid themselves of their babies. The cells of murdered children live on inside their mothers to help - or perhaps - hurt them: "Cells may migrate through the placenta between the mother and the fetus, taking up residence in many organs of the body including the lung, thyroid muscle, liver, heart, kidney and skin. These may have a broad range of impacts, from tissue repair and cancer prevention to sparking immune disorders."

****************************************

ITEM #8: Church: Don't judge those with HIV/AIDS

Catholic Church officials said the public should not judge people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes the dreaded Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

****************************************

ITEM #9: Chief Rabbis of Israel say, 'Killing fetuses is murder'

In stronger language than they have used in their previous messages, Chief Rabbi of Israel Yona Metzger and Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel Shlomo Amar called the killing of the child in the womb "murder." "As in past," the letter reads, "we call on all rabbis in Israel" to "raise in their words and sermons in synagogues...the severe prohibition of abortion."

****************************************

ITEM #10: Central Asia's 'Drug Capital' Fights To Stem Tide Of Narcotics

Poverty makes it easy for drug dealers to recruit drug couriers. It is believed that up to one quarter of the heroin produced in the world crosses through Central Asia.

****************************************

ITEM #11: Pope Benedict speaks out against abortion

The path to attainment of the common good and peace is "above all that of respect for human life in all its many aspects, beginning with its conception, through its development and up to its natural end," Pope Benedict XVI has said. "True peacemakers, then, are those who love, defend and promote human life in all its dimensions . . . Anyone who loves peace cannot tolerate attacks and crimes against life."

ITEM #12: India Supreme Court Orders End to Illegal Clinical Trials

A"You have to protect the health of the citizens of the country. It is your obligation. Deaths must be arrested and illegal trials must be stopped."
