Lifeissues Newsletter #619

Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,
Planned Parenthood and lukewarm Catholics - Our nation is riding a long, dark, out-of-control train that is powered by Planned Parenthood and its pernicious immorality. That train is on a collision course for hell. A society that falls into moral decay will not long survive. The only way to regain control and avert a terminal train wreck is to regain the hearts of the people. That will only happen when Catholics turn on the hot water tap and bring their lukewarm faith to the boiling point.

Father Jeffrey Montz of Kenner, Louisiana, explained the importance of casting aside a lukewarm faith in regaining the culture, and thus our country, in his post-election homily, where he pointed out that the election results were all about the moral decline of our nation. He quoted Pope St. Pius X, who said, "All evil in the world is due to lukewarm Catholics."
God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Post Abortion): "All Things New: Beautiful short film gives hope after abortion" -  Making a film dealing with the pain of post-abortive women is a challenging task. LightWorkFilms has done a beautiful job of capturing a real life situation sensitively. The film gives no judgment or harsh opinions. It is bathed in love with sweet gentle music playing in the background. I would recommend this film to anyone interested in seeing a lovely story of redemption.

ITEM #1: Euthanasia is out-of-control in Belgium

The euthanasia lobby continues to wave the flags of choice and autonomy when at the same time the practice of euthanasia in Belgium is under-reported, is being done without request or consent, is being done to people who cannot consent (Alzheimer/Dementia) and being done by pressuring people with healthy organs to give the "gift of life".

****************************************

ITEM #2: Spousal Love in Conjugal Spirituality

This paper explores perspectives of conjugal spirituality that cultivate reverence for, and understanding of, spousal love. First, a masculine perspective is presented, through which husbands are tutored in spousal love as they contemplate Christ, the Divine Bridegroom, whose agape is poured out from the cross. A feminine perspective approaches Mary's fiat as a model for wives, who are called to image the Church as they receive and respond to spousal love.

****************************************

ITEM #3:  Tim Carney: An awful loss, a beautiful life, a daunting task

Nothing can prepare you for seeing your one-year-old nephew in a casket. Nothing can take away his parents' agony. And nobody could have expected how much good work this helpless baby would do in 14 months. ... Daily saving the life of an immobile kid with a fatal disease raises some fundamental questions. What is the point of such a life? Which raises the prior question: What is the purpose of any life?

****************************************

ITEM #4: Vatican envoy warns UN on inventing 'new human rights'

"A fundamental question ought always to be present in our minds," Archbishop Mamberti said: "Are human rights universal because a majority of countries recognizes them, or are they universal because of an ethical claim which is prior to their recognition by states and which comes from the dignity of every person?"

****************************************

ITEM #5: The Homosexually Oriented Person and the Church

Holding that all persons are created in the image and likeness of God, the Church most certainly does not condemn homosexual persons ... (but) condemns using human sexuality for purposes contrary to that for which it is divinely intended ... including homosexual acts. ... It is the act, not the person which is the issue.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Amsterdam's Legalized Prostitution Experiment Failed, Miserably
By legalizing prostitution, the Dutch government made it legal for pimps to sell people for the sexual use of johns, the buyers. Instead of being called "pimps" or "traffickers," the government gave them new titles - "businessmen" and "managers." The government made the buying and selling of human beings respectable, at least as seen through their own distorted lenses.
****************************************

ITEM #7 Morning-after pills all have abortive potential, doctor says
The reasoning offered by the German Catholic bishops for allowing the morning-after pill in rape cases is being faulted for citing information that is not medically accurate.

****************************************

ITEM #8: Pornography Statistics: Annual Report 2013
The Porn Industry: In 2006, estimated revenues for the sex-related entertainment business were just under $13 billion in the US. These estimates included video sales and rentals, Internet sales, cable, pay-per-view, phone sex, exotic dance clubs magazines, and novelty stores.

****************************************

ITEM #9: Gender: What Is It and Why Does It Matter?

"The aspects of things that are most important for us are hidden because of their simplicity and familiarity. (One is unable to notice something - because it is always before one's eyes.) The real foundations of his inquiry do not strike a person at all... And this means: we fail to be struck by what, once seen, is most striking and most powerful." Ludwig Wittgenstein's words here apply to the man-woman difference: in the reality of marriage in its entirely self-evident and foundational character, as well as in its absolute centrality to human existence.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Talking to teens: Pornography addiction; sexual pressures

Two North Texas teens shared their candid thoughts on sex, including pornography addiction and sexual pressures.
****************************************
ITEM #11: The Human Embryo
Embryologists categorically reject the notion of a "pre-embryo" or some form of evolving "human-being-on-the-way." From its inception, the embryo contains its entire genetic makeup and needs only time to grow and develop into what we would recognize as a human person.
****************************************ITEM #12: Discerning Marriage as Natural Vocation
Marriage, as a vocation, is written into our human nature, into our very being. According to the Church, everyone is called to marriage because they are humans who have been created as either male or female.
