CMMB: Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer 4/14/2013

Weekly Prayer Reflection for Summer

“When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, ‘Come, have breakfast.’ Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them, and in like manner the fish.”

John 21:9-10

Third Sunday of Easter
Dear Friends
One of the surprising revelations about Pope Francis is that even when he was Cardinal of the city of Buenos Aires, he rode the tram or bus, and cooked his own meals! This was clearly a choice he made, because as an archbishop or cardinal he would always be provided for. The Pope is showing us an example of humility, of simplicity – and of service. Like Jesus, he wants to serve more than be served.

We have a wonderful, beautiful image of this in the gospel for today. Jesus is Risen Lord, glorified, He has conquered over sin, suffering, and death. And what is He doing? He is at the shore of the Sea of Galilee, cooking, preparing breakfast for His apostles. We pray that we echo and imitate that down to earth spirit of service that Jesus exemplifies in this gospel story.

Prayer for Generosity (St. Ignatius of Loyola):
Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, save that of knowing that I do Your will.
Amen
