Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,
The other day I was browsing through STOPP, the American Life League's website whose purpose is to expose Planned Parenthood and its inner workings. One article by Rita Diller looks at Planned Parenthood's sterile sexuality and how it dehumanizes preborn babies, making them the enemies.
Sex could not have been more disconnected from the concept of creating life. The message I'd heard loud and clear was that the purpose of sex was for pleasure and bonding, that its potential for creating life was purely tangential, almost to the point of being forgotten about altogether. This mindset laid the foundation of my views on abortion. Because I saw sex as being closed to the possibility to life by default, I thought of pregnancies that weren't planned as akin to being struck by lightning while walking down the street...

So said Jennifer Fulwiler, former atheist turned Catholic, in a recent National Catholic Register blog post. Her words struck me like lightning: "I saw sex as being closed to the possibility of life by default, I thought of pregnancies that weren't planned as akin to being struck by lightning while walking down the street."

I had struggled with unanswered questions for decades. After reading her words, three things became very clear to me:

     1. Planned Parenthood's persistent, early sex education - where almost anything goes as long as we protect ourselves from the blight of babies - has warped the understanding of the very meaning and purpose of human sexuality for an entire generation and for our society. Sex, which by nature is life-giving, is closed to the possibility of life by default.

     2. The abortion giant's constant manipulation of the very purpose and meaning of human sexuality has so twisted our society that it literally laid the groundwork for today's abortion holocaust.

     3. Women are able to actually make a decision to pay to have their own children killed because the sterile sex culture created by Planned Parenthood and its cohorts has completely permeated the minds, hearts, and souls of a large portion of this generation.

(Life): "Woman aims to help poor one country at a time" -  Where there is a will there is a way. This simple phrase describes the work and life of Cristiana Cassina.

ITEM #1: Shocking 4,620% Increase in Belgium Euthanasia Cases Since Legalization

A recent FCEE report on euthanasia in Belgium on 2010 and 2011, unfortunately available only in French, details the longer term trends since legalisation. The upper line in the graph above is the total of euthanasia cases reported to the commission and shows an increase from 24 cases in 2002 to 1,133 in 2011 - a stunning overall increase of 4,620% in just ten years!

ITEM #2: Life on death row: 'Am I going to be next?'

Death row inmates are given a 45-day countdown until execution. When the date is a week away, they are moved to a death watch area - a small room with four cells and one stainless steel table. On the day of the execution, the inmate is allowed to visit with family members, attorneys and a chaplain. All of Central Prison feels the weight on execution days.

ITEM #3:  Promoting Abortion Will Increase, Not End, Violence Against Women

A panel of scientists meeting in New York last week presented scientific evidence showing abortion is "a form of growing violence against women and girls." According to a news release about the event, "indiscriminate practice of abortion is significantly correlated with coercion, a history of sexual abuse, violence during pregnancy, intimate partner violence, and with psychological consequences that may lead to suicide."

ITEM #4: Stretching for Life

Last month, I had an amazing opportunity to spend my spring break educating fellow young people about abortion. I was invited to go to Florida with the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, where I would join a team bringing the Genocide Awareness Project to university campuses. Taking part in this project was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

****************************************

ITEM #5: The Abortion 'Pill': Far From 'Simple'

On September 28, 2000 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted final approval to RU-486, also known as the 'abortion pill' or a 'medical abortion'. Its sole purpose was abortion - to end the life of a preborn child. NOTE: RU-486 should not be confused with the "morning after pill," also known as 'Plan B' or 'Ella'. The "morning after pill" is designed to prevent pregnancy. It is taken within 3 - 5 days after unprotected sex. In some circumstances, however, it can cause an early abortion.

****************************************

ITEM #6: If two lesbians can marry, why not two sisters?
But why could I not, in the brave new era of marriage equality, marry my sister? What is the difference between us and two lesbians who present themselves to a marriage celebrant? Neither couple can produce a child, so the customary reason for "siblings" (brother and sister) not being able to marry or even have a sexual relationship -- a genetically impaired child -- is irrelevant.
****************************************

ITEM #7 Catholic mothers face enormous pressure to abort baby girls
Demand for boys means stress for Vietnam mothers.

****************************************

ITEM #8: Mary Ebertstadt: Contraception and its consequences not "just a Catholic thing."
The best way to defend Catholic teaching on contraception is to remain on the offense and utilize secular statistics, "Adam and Eve After the Pill" author Mary Eberstadt told an audience gathered earlier this semester at Franciscan University of Steubenvill.

****************************************

ITEM #9: Abortionists agree - abortion is killing

"A fetus isn't a baby." "A woman has a right to choose." These are often the most common statements a pro-lifer hears when discussing abortion with pro-choice people.

****************************************

ITEM #10: North Dakota Senate passes legislation protecting preborn with heartbeat, Down Syndrome

Why would a heartbeat not be considered life? It makes so much sense.
****************************************
ITEM #11: Forced to Abort? Don't Count on Clinics to Help
Most assume that if a woman or girl is being pressured or forced to abort, that she will have the right or option of saying "no" at the clinic and be given the help she needs. But the truth is that vulnerable women and girls can't count on clinics to help.
****************************************ITEM #12: Persistence is Key - in Marriage as in Life
Do you know your neighbor's or co-worker's or classmate's real opinions about genderless marriage? Or do you simply know what they say they believe? Or, do you - and they - tend neither to ask nor to tell on such hot button topics? If the latter, this is likely due in part to the appearance that genderless marriage has gained widespread political support over the past decade. But we should take note that the drift towards genderless marriage has had nothing to do with real debate. It is a trend that was manufactured primarily through the dictates of political correctness and suppression of dissent.
