Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends for Life,

Keeping parents in the dark is one of Planned Parenthood's hallmarks. Most parents are still unaware that this week there will be a hearing in the K-12 subcommittee of the South Carolina legislature on the so-called Healthy Youth Act (H3435) that would mandate only Planned Parenthood-style "safe sex" education for minors and vulnerable teens, certify only teachers who teach a specific list of programs, and make abstinence education programs illegal.

"Laws pass when parents don't object; says one or two phone calls can derail sex ed program." Brad Victor said that the most liberal sex ed laws in the nation were driven through easily because there was no parental outcry. A "Sexuality Education Specialist" with the Oregon Department of Education, Victor was introduced at the beginning of the Oregon Adolescent Sexuality Conference as being with WISE of Oregon, an acronym for "Working to Institutionalize Sex Education." Victor described how laws requiring sex education starting in kindergarten and condom demonstrations in sixth grade were pushed through with the greatest of ease when parents' voices were not heard in opposition at the state board level.

ITEM #1: The New Unmarried Moms

20-somethings are driving America's all-time high level of nonmarital childbearing, which is now at 41% of all births, according to vital-statistics data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sixty percent of those births are to women in their 20s, while teens account for only one-fifth of nonmarital births. Between 1990 and 2008, the teen pregnancy rate has dropped by 42%, while the rate of nonmarital childbearing among 20-something women has risen by 27%. The shift of unmarried parenthood from teens to 20-somethings is in part an unexpected consequence of delaying marriage.

ITEM #2: Many Successful Gay Marriages Share an Open Secret

The swing towards Thailand is the direct result of a decision by India to only grant medical visas for surrogacy to heterosexual couples who have been married for at least two years.

ITEM #3:  The Country of Death: 40 years, 330 million abortions, 196 million sterilisations

Stepping back, the question emerges: "What, exactly, distinguishes the culture of death in the West from the culture of death in China?"

ITEM #4: As Support For Gay Marriage Grows, An Opponent Looks Ahead

Gallagher only started speaking against gay marriage in 2003, when, she says, she could no longer avoid it. She'd spent the prior decade publically warning about the decline in marriage in general — how the sexual revolution, feminism and divorce were threatening the institution and children. Then gay marriage lurched out as the biggest threat of all.

ITEM #5: Hello baby! Incredible 3D scans allow parents to see foetus SMILING and MOVING in stunning detail

A blurry blob on a hospital screen is the first view most expectant parents get of their child. But new state-of-the-art imaging software is now able to map a foetus in incredible detail. The software takes a conventional 3D ultrasound scan and adds colour, skin texture, lighting and shadows.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Why is Canada's parliament tip-toeing around sex-selective abortion?

Debate is being stifled because the government is afraid to touch the third rail.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Elder abuse caught on video, elder abuse incident is not isolated

A Peterborough Ontario Newspaper reported on the elder abuse of Hellen MacDonald, who was living in a long-term care room. Her son Camille Parent was upset about the care of his mother and decided to install a hidden camera to uncover what was happening to his mother.

ITEM #8: Protect children from internet pornography, report demands

Report finds evidence of a high correlation between exposure to violent and sadistic images and behaviour.

ITEM #9: Doctor: Abortion Not A "Viable Treatment Option" to Save Women's Lives

Tells Legislators That Performing Abortions "Would Entail Undue and Dangerous Delay" in Providing Life-Saving Care for Women.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Later Abortions Linked to Psychological Problems, More Ambivalence

This week experts testified before a Congressional subcommittee on a bill that would ban abortions nationwide past 20 weeks. A 2010 study of women who had abortions found that women undergoing later abortions face increased psychological risks, are more likely to be ambivalent about having an abortion and are more likely to need counseling and support.

****************************************

ITEM #11: If Your Child Is Gay?

Every parent owes the same love and support to a gay child as to a straight child. In fact, all of us, parents or not, owe the same respect to gays as individuals as we do to heterosexuals as individuals. That does not mean, however, that marriage needs to be redefined. It does not mean that, other things being equal, it is not best for a child to have a male and a female parent.

****************************************

ITEM #12: Advice for 21st century young women

The last 50 years have transformed the way men and women look at themselves and each other — both willingly and grudgingly - provoking existential self-examination unprecedented in human history. I'm speaking of what we've termed the sexual revolution, ushered in by the combined influences of the birth control pill and feminist activism.
