Lifeissues Newsletter #632

Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues
Dear Friends for Life,

Delaware Planned Parenthood violates 11-year-olds:

She's just 11 years old, but Nyiray Thomas already knows what she would say if someone ever tries to convince her to have unprotected sex, even just once.

"I would say no, because I don't want to have a child," she said. "I want to achieve my goals."

So begins an article on the website of Planned Parenthood of Delaware promoting its Obamacare funded "sexuality education training institute," purportedly designed "to teach young people about abstinence and contraception." But where is the abstinence education in this scenario? The only abstinence encouraged by Planned Parenthood is abstaining from "unprotected" sex. Add a few steroids and a condom and you have the green light for sex for eleven-year-old children -- without regard to morality, health consequences, or other impacts upon the child.

(The Difference is LIFE) "Is there a culture of violence and death in America? Of course. It's fostered by constant wars and millions of corpses, threats of more war, murderous sanctions, soldier and police worship, the cult of empire, CIA death squads, capital punishment, Pentagon-promoted video war games, war movies and TV, other bloody movies and TV, millions of abortions, extensive euthanasia killings, and relentless propaganda for all these evils." -Lew Rockwell (Dec 30, 2012).

(Youth): "Plan B and Enabling Exploitation"Most troubling about this ruling is not only this concession that teenagers will have risky sex, like the animals we now think they are. It's that we've eliminated yet another adult from their lives. At least with a prescription, there is a physician that will know what's going on. The cultural myth, however, is that no one belongs in anyone's bedroom. But what about cases of sexual bullying or risky sexual behavior?

ITEM #1: Euthanasia Supporters Must Learn True Meaning of 'Dignity' and 'Compassion'

When the nation of Belgium formally abolished the death penalty in 1996, it hadn't executed anyone in peacetime for more than one hundred years. The Belgian government passed the abolition law because, it said, the "death penalty is a serious assault on human dignity."

****************************************

ITEM #2: World Congress of Families Troubled by FBI Request to 'Question' Head of Expectant Mother Care

Jacobs noted: "Some in the pro-life community believe this 'intelligence gathering' operation is intended to stigmatize pro-lifers and justify future actions to disrupt their peaceful, pro-life activities. This comes on the heels of revelations that the IRS deliberately targeted more than 300 conservative and Tea Party groups that promoted American ideals of family, faith, and freedom for all. Before it would confer 501(c)3 status, the IRS asked the leaders of one pro-life group to sign a pledge that it would never picket a Planned Parenthood clinic."
****************************************

ITEM #3:  Thyroid cancer found in 12 minors in Fukushima

An ongoing study on the impact of radiation on Fukushima residents from the crippled atomic power plant has found 12 minors with confirmed thyroid cancer diagnoses, up from three in a report in February, with 15 other suspected cases, up from seven, researchers announced Wednesday.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Weigel on Communion for pro-abortion politicians: Exclusive interview - VIDEO II

For Weigel, it's not only a question of the politician being true to himself. "It's a question of the integrity of the Sacraments" and "it really is the responsibility of local bishops to make sure that the integrity of the Sacraments is honored in their dioceses."
****************************************

ITEM #5: Families strengthen religious practice, and religion strengthens families: data

Eberstadt studied the relationship between family and religious practice and describes their inter-dependence in her new book How the West Really Lost God. Eberstadt explains their relationship as "the double helix of society, each dependent on the strength of the other for successful reproduction."
****************************************
ITEM #6: Beware of New Prolife Calls for Human Cloning "Bans"
It seems to me that a clarion call to ban all human cloning is a moral imperative. What is also a moral imperative is that prolife gets the science right so that in supporting certain bills they don't end up actually legally protecting some or even all human cloning, thus legally allowing the death and destruction of untold numbers of innocent living human beings in cloning research experiments -- not to mention the harm to untold numbers of women into whom these experimental cloned human embryos are implanted, and then often purposefully aborte.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Pope Francis: The Human Person is in Crisis
Pope Francis challenges us to address the crisis of the human person by changing our priorities away from things and towards people.
****************************************

ITEM #8: Gay 'marriage' Is Anything But 'inevitable'

No one can deny that Americans' support for marriage is not what it once was. This is largely because we have done an insufficient job of explaining what marriage is, why marriage matters, and what the consequences will be if we redefine marriage.
****************************************

ITEM #9: Facing the effects of same-sex parenting

"Quite simply, growing up with gay parents was very difficult...When your home life is so drastically different from everyone around you, in a fundamental way striking at basic physical relations, you grow up weird..."

Gay marriage: a case study in conformism

What Few Deny Gay Marriage Will Do

****************************************

ITEM #10: Pastors Must Preach Against Abortion More Often, We Must Encourage Them

Many people find themselves in churches in which ministers rarely, if ever, preach against abortion from the pulpit. The abortion issue is also a subject we rarely address in social circles or with family, even though we know it touches the lives of so many. Perhaps because abortion is so prevalent we end up avoiding the topic in order not to offend. Abortion, however, is a subject that must be addressed openly, particularly among Christians, and it can be done both in truth and grace. Recently, theologian R.C. Sproul Jr. published a blog post in which he explored reasons why pastors do not preach on abortion.

ITEM #11: Alone, poor and sick: A snapshot of China's elderly
The one-child policy is destroying the Chinese social system, based on the family and "filial piety". A nationwide survey shows that the approximately 160 million people over 65 in the country do not have enough money to meet daily expenses, live in poor health and have no family support.
**************************************** ITEM #12: From Gay Sex to Marriage Equality
When I was growing up (I'm almost 50 years old now), there were few more hurtful and shameful insults that could be hurled at oneself than "gay" or "homo." Moreover, the visceral reaction against homosexuality was so strong at the time, the thought that the terms "gay" and "marriage" would be used in the same sentence would have seemed preposterous - even to many people with a same-sex attraction.
