Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues
Dear Friends for Life,

Violence against women is becoming a worldwide "epidemic". Recently, BBC News reported that more than one in three women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence.

What does a woman from a village in India say about being respected: "I will go back and tell others. It is better to stay in your village, be beaten by your husband and live as a poor person, than come to the city and suffer at the hands of the rich. The agencies and their brokers tell you lies. They trap you in the city where you have no money and know no one. They sent me many places - I don't even know the names of the areas. Fifteen days here, one month there. The placement agent kept making excuses and kept me working. She took all my salary." - Theresa Kerketa, 45 years, from a village in Chhattisgarh state in central India. (Often beaten and locked in the homes she was sent to, Kerketa was forced to work long hours and denied contact with her family. She was not informed when her father and husband died.)

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

 ****************************************

ITEM #1: Honor, Love, and Being a Father in Full

That fatherhood is not as "biological" as motherhood might be understood as an advantage for our time, when single men should come to see it's good for them to assume loving shared responsibility in marriage for the children of all those single moms.

****************************************

ITEM #2: Do Traditional Marriage Supporters Deserve to Be Treated with Dignity?

Some people can’t seem to understand why anyone would support marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Indeed, Justice Anthony Kennedy argued last week that the only reason Congress had for passing the Defense of Marriage Act was to “disparage,” “injure,” “degrade,” “demean,” and “humiliate” others. Justice Kennedy says we’re denying dignity to people in same-sex relationships. But it is his ruling that denies dignity to those who don’t think a same-sex relationship is a marriage. His ruling denies dignity to the millions of Americans and their elected officials who have voted to pass laws that tell the truth about marriage.

ITEM #3:  Named: the Australian paedophile jailed for 40 years

[Note: Sick. Please, consider what else can be done with surrogate children. -- Dianne Irving, Ph.D.]

I am a product of surrogacy
It looks to me like I was bought and sold. You can dress it up with as many pretty words as you want. You can wrap it up in a silk freaking scarf. You can pretend these are not your children. You can say it is a gift or you donated your egg to the IM. But the fact is that someone has contracted you to make a child, give up your parental rights and hand over your flesh and blood child. I don’t care if you think I am not your child, what about what I think! Maybe I know I am your child. When you exchange something for money it is called a commodity.

Video 8:18 Disturbing child abuse case links Australians to paedophile ring

Two Australian men hid their role in a disturbing child abuse case behind an image of two doting fathers, but the shocking evidence against them is part of a police effort to break an international paedophile ring, and a warning that this report contains confronting material.s.

ITEM #4: Major Newspapers Reject Pro-Life Ad, Image of Baby “Too Controversial”

The Chicago Tribune, USA Today, and the LA Times refused to run an advertisement created by Heroic Media. The ad features a hand holding a 20- to 24-week-old baby with the quote, "This child has no voice, which is why it depends on yours. Speak Up."
****************************************

ITEM #5: Violence against women

More than one-third of women worldwide suffer physical or sexual violence during their lifetimes, the first systematic study by the U.N. World Health Organization recently reported. Of the 35 percent of women who experienced violence, 30 percent of the violence was perpetrated by their partners. Violence against women is a serious crime, a human rights violation and a health problem that has reached epidemic proportions.
****************************************
ITEM #6: Video: Medical Experts Confirm Unborn Children Feel Pain During Abortion
Three medical specialists discuss the science of preborn children experiencing pain during an abortion procedure. House Bill 2 and Senate Bill 1, currently considered in the Special Session of the Legislature, establish the state’s interest in protecting the lives of preborn children who feel pain. Dr. Paul Liu, Dr. Ingrid Skop, and Dr. Greg Bonnen all speak to the behavioral and physiological evidence confirming that preborn children feel pain.

****************************************

ITEM #7 CDC warns gay men of 'epidemic' HIV rates
If HIV infections among men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to rise at the current rates, more than half of college-aged homosexual men will have HIV by the age of 50.
****************************************

ITEM #8: Celebrating “Humane Vitae” 45 Years Later

The one night stand may not have been born in the 60s, but it was granted acceptance and serial permanence. ... the Holy Father saw how a general lowering of overall morality would be the result of such self-centeredness.
****************************************

ITEM #9: Questions Answered

* Has the church changed her teaching on condom use to prevent the spread of HIV?

* Can you tell me the origin of celibacy as a requirement for the priesthood  and why the Western Church puts so much emphasis on it?.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Supreme Court Decision on Marriage: "Tragic Day for Marriage and our Nation"

Marriage is the only institution that brings together a man and a woman for life, providing any child who comes from their union with the secure foundation of a mother and a father.
****************************************
ITEM #11: What Brought Down the Defense of Marriage Act?
By deeming the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional, five justices of the Supreme Court rewrote more than a thousand federal laws that were written with the traditional definition of marriage in mind. Mario Diaz, Esq., Legal Counsel for Concerned Women for America, provides a clear explanation of what unfurled at the Supreme Court.
**************************************** ITEM #12: India's ever rising suicide rate causes alarm
Every hour of the day in India at least 15 people commit suicide, according to the latest official data.
