From CMMB: Haiti Earthquake: 4 Years Later

Haiti Earthquake: 4 Years Later
Tomorrow marks the 4th Anniversary of the devastating Haiti earthquake that struck on January 12, 2010.
CMMB was on scene in minutes following the earthquake – mercifully, the staff was all safe and began immediately
to provide medicines and medical supplies to aid the victims of the quake. In total, more than $49 million was
raised and placed to help those affected.
Today, CMMB’s commitment to Haiti is as strong, if not stronger. Just last year, we announced the building
of the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Center for Health in Cotes-de-Fer, where the community has still not
recovered from the devastation caused by the quake.
Its population of 77,000 is served by just one doctor
and a part-time clinic.
It is a special honor to dedicate our work in Cotes-de-Fer to Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan, a CMMB Board member,
but also someone whose life was dedicated to helping those in need gain access to quality health care.
CMMB’s important work with amputees, that begun in response to the earthquake, has expanded
and evolved via our work as a founding member of the Haitian Amputee Coalition (HAC).
To date,
more than 885 patients have been fitted with prosthesis. Most recently, HAC and St. Vincent’s School for the
Handicapped have partnered to renovate and rehabilitate the St. Vincent’s Prosthetics and Orthotics Workshop.
The workshop is staffed and run by local Haitians, providing job opportunities to the community.
Please join us in prayer and reflection for our Haitian brothers and sisters as they continue to recover from the quake.
Make a gift to the Bishop Joseph Sullivan Fund
