Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf

Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ
Dear Friend,
Different religions have different traditions, rituals, and events to recall and celebrate how the almighty God is present and active in their midst. For Catholics, that presence centers on Jesus Christ, God’s Son. Today we remember and celebrate that Jesus Christ is with us sacramentally in the bread and wine of Holy Communion. Thus we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ.
In many Catholic countries and parishes, as part of this feast the Blessed Sacrament is carried in processions through the streets. I recall very well processions through the streets of Nigeria on this annual feast. One year it rained. It poured. Everyone was drenched—but that did not matter. The procession continued, the prayers and singing of hymns did not stop. Lawyers, doctors, parents, children, stood their ground as if nothing were happening except the Eucharist.
Such is the power of Catholic faith, such is the strength and depth of Catholic belief in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. May that presence unite us and send us forth on mission to serve God’s people, especially the most vulnerable.
On Father’s Day we thank our fathers for fulfilling this difficult and challenging mission. And we ask God to continue to shower His blessings upon them – those still with us as well as those who have passed away.
Lord Jesus Christ, You gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of Your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of Your Body and Your Blood help us to experience the salvation You won for us and the peace of the kingdom where You live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
