Spirit and Life: Action Builds a Legacy of Hope Around the World

Spirit & Life
 Human Life International's Weekly Newsletter

Recently, I wrote about Emil Hagamu and how his HLI apostolate grew from a handful of affiliates in three countries to numerous pro-life leaders in 16 nations in Anglophone Africa. Through Emil and other HLI regional directors, an incredible network of pro-life affiliates is confronting the Culture of Death -- a culture that destroys the faith-centric fabric of life and family.

This week, we are hosting our regional directors, hailing from six continents, to discuss the current global threats and challenges that they face in their respective regions. Our meetings are covering short-term goals and long-term strategies, as well as action items necessary to accomplish the vision of HLI. We've also been blessed to hear transformational testimonies from their in-depth regional reports.

The stories we hear are astounding: the mental suffering of those dealing with post-abortion wounds; the zeal of enlightened bishops, nuncios, consecrated religious, priests, and seminarians; the malicious tactics of anti-life organizations; and the inspiring marches and prayer vigils organized for pro-life advocates to spread the Gospel of Life.

"There's power in the Gospel of Life; we go to a country -- not as tourists -- but as pro-life missionaries!"
-Dr. Ligaya Acosta, director of Asia/Oceana

"In Africa, people still listen to priests, but it won't be long. The money pouring in from anti-life entities compromises the people who do not know or hear the Gospel of Life."
-
George Wirnkar, director of Francophone Africa

"I've seen miracles because we are educating everyone we meet. We're proclaiming the Gospel of Life, which is first rooted in prayer, to a dying Europe."
-Joannes Bucher, director of Europe

"Once you learn the truth, you have to do something about it. It's a war that requires prayer, education, and action."
-Mario Rojas, director of Latin America.

"We play a vital role in Italy articulating Life and Family issues in the wake of media distortions."
-
Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro, director of Rome

"Our efforts are working; we're a real threat to the anti-life organizations."
-Emil Hagamu, director of Anglophone Africa

As the eyes, ears, and hands of HLI, these directors, along with their affiliates, are extremely influential in their tireless work to defend life. They support our successful model to equip, organize, and train pro-life advocates through various venues: sidewalk counseling; post-abortion counseling; pregnancy crisis centers; fertility awareness counseling; pro-life leader training; marches for life; prayer vigils; online Catechism formation courses; collaboration with bishops and nuncios; speaking engagements at seminaries and monasteries and schools; and pro-life formation conferences for laity, religious, and youth.

Building upon the legacy of hope that Father Marx triumphantly established in 1981 for the Glory of God, the HLI international apostolate is still making a difference all around the world.  We pray that our short time together with our directors will glorify God and enhance their sphere of influence in gaining more fruitful affiliates to fight for the sanctity of life, faith, and family.

Through your prayerful and financial support, we continue to provide hope in a blinded world. Please pray for George Wirnkar, Emil Hagamu, Dr. Ligaya Acosta, Joannes Bucher, Mario Rojas, and Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro as they renew solidarity with Human Life International, and may our prayers for them be the impetus for continued global success in defense of life and family - for the Glory of God.

MEXICO CITY, Mexico - August 19, 2014 - Father Shenan J. Boquet, President of Human Life International (HLI), attended the 25th anniversary celebration of the Latin American Network of Assistance Centers for Women (CAMs) on Friday, August 15.  The festivities, held at the Bishop's Conference at Lago de Guadalupe in Mexico City, were in honor of Jorge Serrano, the network's co-founder, and the many achievements of his pro-life organization. With a goal to save unborn children from abortion while helping mothers with their most urgent needs, the first CAMs center opened in Mexico City in 1989. [more]

From Ocean to Ocean

by Father Peter West with Chris Morales

Our return to Washington on July 19 brought many blessings to those engaged in pro-life work and for many was a chance to grow in their devotion to Our Lady. Upon our arrival at St. Brendan Church in Bothell, WA, we were elated to see Human Life International materials in the community room at a table staffed by the local pro-life group. That evening, I preached at the Saturday vigil Mass about Our Lady of Czestochowa and her Ocean to Ocean Pilgrimage in Defense of Human Life. Parishioners embraced the Culture of Life message and venerated the Black Madonna after every weekend Mass. On Sunday afternoon, we joined the local pro-life community for a prayer vigil at a Planned Parenthood in nearby Everett, Washington. [more]
