“For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability. Then he went on his journey.” Matthew 25: 14–15

Dear John, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” The annual celebration of Thanksgiving provides the opportunity to slow down, step back, and recall how God has blessed us. We vary greatly in talents, abilities and accomplishments—one, two, or five talents. What is important is not so much whether we have much or little. What does matter, according to the Gospel, is what we do with the gifts or talents given to us. The mission of the Catholic Medical Mission Board is to call forth, gather, and channel the resources, talents and gifts of generous individuals and corporations, so that aid can come to the needy, so that that quality healthcare is available to all—especially women and children. Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that You have done for us. We thank You for the blessing of family and friends. We thank You for setting us at tasks which demand our best efforts, and for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy and delight You. We thank You also for disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on You alone. Above all, we thank You for Jesus Christ, for the truth of His Word and the example of His life. Grant us Your Spirit, that we may know Christ and make Him known, and through Him at all times give thanks to You in all things.
