Spirit & Life - Finding Comfort in the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Defend life with HLI!

Your Support Helps Us Fight the Culture of Death Around the World!

I have just returned to the U.S. from South Africa where HLI's Affiliate sponsored a six-day conference in Cape Town on defending Life and Family. We also led a prayer vigil in front of the Marie Stopes abortion office in downtown Cape Town.

Everywhere I travel on pro-life missions the suffering is apparent in societies that embrace the anti-life and anti-family mentality. People are devastated by the ill effects of contraception, abortion, euthanasia, and the assault on marriage.

Yet the successes of HLI's missions are clear: hearts and minds are embracing the sanctity of life and family in the midst of suffering! When we turn our attention to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our devotion for the month of June, we see that His love burns for every single soul! He wants so much to share His infinite love and mercy to all -- especially to those who are suffering!

In this week's Spirit & Life, Msgr. Barreiro and Fr. West examine the devotion to the Sacred Heart in a unique way: Finding Comfort in the Sacred Heart: Dealing with Same-Sex AttractionAnother article, written by Emil Hagamu, HLI Regional Director of Anglophone Africa, addresses the global anti-life agenda threatening families in Namibia. Our mission stories and articles highlight the continual need for prayers and support in our vital mission to defend life and family.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

The heart of the Gospel message is God's love for sinners as John 3:16 tells us. Jesus Christ, the Incarnate God, is the manifestation of the love of God. Yet, persons who struggle with same-sex attraction (SSA) are often falsely told by society that the Church rejects them. Because of this confusion, many bear a great resentment against the Church, but Jesus and his Church never reject a repentant sinner. No one who calls on Christ for mercy and repents of his sin will be lost. The doors of the Church are always open to the repentant sinner. -continue-

Namibia is among the nations with the lowest population density, with only 6.7 persons per square mile. Rather than cities and suburbs, what one sees throughout most of the country are cacti trees, characteristic of the desert landscape.
The reality in the southern coastal African nation is, however, that despite having a population density that is 1/100th of that in the United Kingdom, international NGOs have made population control a priority, directly threatening life and family values in Namibian culture.
