From 40 Days For Life: DAY 25: Matters of life and death

image

Before I get to an update on the courageous campaign leaders dealing with California wild fires ... I want to let you know that 40 Days for Life will be featured on EWTN -- the Eternal Word Television Network -- on Sunday.
I will be on EWTN Bookmark with host Doug Keck at 9:30 am Eastern. The show will be re-aired on Monday at 4:30 pm Eastern.
Today we have a special shout-out to 40 Days for Life volunteers in California who've had to deal with the serious fires plaguing their areas.
Some of them have had to evacuate their homes.
We insist on putting safety first when it comes to the vigil. In just one example, the fires got too close for Howard and Ron and the 40 Days for Life team in Napa. "Lost less than seven calendar days due to the unpredictable fires in our area," Howard wrote.
But that did not discourage these folks once it was safe to venture out.

Yes, there's a smoky haze in the air … and yes, those are masks that some of the people are wearing.
"Undeterred by the smoke … 22 stalwart prayer warriors prayed in front of local Planned Parenthood facility," Ron reported.
For several 40 Days for Life campaigns in California, the fires represent a life-and-death situation. But once the danger subsides, these volunteers will once again turn their attention to another life-and-death situation – at the local abortion center.
And this is why we continue to pray.

Colorado Springs, Colorado

More than 70 volunteers took part in a candlelight vigil in Colorado Springs – a "very encouraging and prayerful gathering," according to Michele, the local coordinator.
Carol Siedhoff, a member of the 40 Days for Life board of directors, was on hand to share thoughts and stories with the participants in Colorado Springs' 18th 40 Days for Life campaign.
"It was a great visit from Carol!" Michele said. "What an amazing woman!"
The Colorado Springs team is doing its best to boost participation in the vigil, "and Carol really lifted our spirits."

Vukovar, Croatia

"Our campaign is doing well," said Lidija, one of the 40 Days for Life leaders in Vukovar. "More and more people are coming to ask us about the 40 Days for Life initiative and why are we there."
The Vukovar team also met with a Franciscan youth group. "We introduced them to the facts and statistics about abortion – and 40 Days for Life's involvement in pro-life activities," Lidija said.
"They were so surprised. They didn't know much about abortion," she said. "At the end, they promised to get more involved."

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
— Jeremiah 1:4-5
Lord God, we confess that in You we live and move and have our being. Because You are, we are. May we find grace from You to affirm the being of every human and may we labor to make this truth known to the world around us.

Religious Identity and Freedom                                                   October 20, 2017

By Kimberly Baker

In early October, the U.S. government made two announcements affirming the importance of religious liberty in our country.

First, the Attorney General issued a memorandum offering guidance on "Federal Law Protections for Religious Liberty." The Attorney General's memorandum affirms the importance of protecting the freedom of faith-based organizations to operate in accordance with their religious missions.

Second, the Trump Administration announced a broad religious and moral exemption from the current mandate of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) requiring health insurance coverage for various forms of contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs and devices.

The broadened exemption from the HHS mandate will protect Catholic and other faith-based institutions--as well as non-sectarian groups like the March for Life that have moral objections to participating in abortion--from being forced to cover items in their health plans that go against their deeply held religious beliefs or moral convictions.

Critics of these announcements immediately claimed that such exemptions would "roll back progress" and be an imposition on the wider society. But, in fact, the opposite is true.

If religious freedom is not protected so that faith-based organizations and individuals can live according to their religious beliefs, we risk a slippery slope of state-imposed coercion and a gradual loss of freedom for all. History has shown that suppressing religious practices of ordinary citizens can lead to other civil liberties being taken away--such as free speech and freedom of assembly.

As a society, we recognize an individual person's right to religious freedom; it logically follows that this same freedom can be exercised peacefully by a group of individuals and the faith-based institutions and organizations they operate (see Dignitatis Humanae, no. 4). It is a serious violation of freedom for a government to compel a faith-based organization to adhere to a law or policy that goes against the very beliefs it was founded upon. Such compulsion essentially erases that aspect of the institution's religious identity and suppresses it unjustly.

Allowing faith-based organizations to operate according to their religious beliefs can hardly be called an imposition on the rest of society. Individuals are free to choose their place of employment, taking into consideration whether they are willing to respect its mission. If they disagree with some aspect of the mission--whether faith-based or otherwise--they are free to work elsewhere.

By adhering to their founding beliefs, religious groups aren't "forcing" their views on society; rather, the true imposition is the stifling and suppression of religious identity and expression--within these groups' own operations, even--due to mandatory laws. It is therefore completely valid and fair for a government to grant such religious exemptions.

Real progress is allowing faith-based organizations to be true to their religious identities and have the freedom to serve by contributing to the good of society in various ways. The recent policy developments allow Catholic organizations to continue being faithful to their religious mission and identity, especially regarding the sanctity of life. While it is our hope that the sacredness of human life be respected in all areas of society, we are certainly within our rights to live and operate according to our beliefs within our own Catholic organizations. Therefore, the Administration's recent announcements pertaining to religious liberty are proper affirmations of this freedom.

In a country replete with indifference and sometimes even disdain for preborn babies, we must do everything in our power to protect and defend them – from the very first moment they are created.

As Emily Brown writes, acts of kindness help us feel a little bit better about ourselves, not to mention the good they do for the recipients of our unselfish action, word, or message . . . [Click for more]

Evangelist Alveda King: Court Ordered Abortions and Political Strife Impede Racial Reconciliation

Contact: Leslie Palma, 732-757-9087

ATLANTA, Oct. 20, 2017 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following is submitted by Evangelist Alveda King:

On October 19, 2017, a Judge orders the government to facilitate an abortion for a seventeen-year old illegal immigrant known as the "new Jane Roe;" with the ACLU representing the young mother. The Justice Department is seeking injunction to save life of baby. The shelter where the mother is housed has contacted a local pregnancy center and the grandmother of the baby to seek assistance for the mother and unborn child. On other fronts, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson inadvertently stirred up more pain for a widow of a war hero with her misinterpretation of an appropriate condolence call from POTUS. Issues of racism and discrimination are lurking in the shadows, raising their nefarious heads.

Fact check: Abortion is a civil wrong that violates the civil and human rights of unborn children; where is the lawyer for the baby? In this case the office of the US Attorney General argues that the mother does not have a constitutional right to appeal to the US government for an elective abortion on demand as an illegal immigrant unless there is a medical emergency. As to the issue of condolences to the war widow, she needs our prayers without all of the shameful political jockeying.

Those in favor of the young mother having the abortion are proponents of an abortion agenda initiated by Margaret Sanger, a 20th century racist eugenicist who founded Planned Parenthood and is considered by some to be America's "Mother of Abortion." Sanger championed eugenics and racism in her day, going so far as be an advisor to the Klu-Klux-Klan, and to birth a Eugenics Movement which has resulted in the genocide of millions of blacks and other "undesirables."

Those who are criticizing the President for his choice of words in his condolence call to the war widow are part of a group that is constantly attempting to unsuccessfully malign the Office of The President of the United States. It is time for a time out across the corridors of unrest and strife that are attempting to overtake our nation. We should start now with sincere racial reconciliation.

Let's first unlock the lie of separate races. The words "racist" and "racism" are thrown around a lot today. From a Christian standpoint, racism is a sin based upon the lie that we are separate races. The Bible teaches us that as humans we are One Blood, one human race.

Once we accept the truth that we are one human race, we must repent from our sins of racism; inhumanity to humanity, war, abortion and idolatry.

In the 20th century we turned to Nonviolence as a key to this process. These principles of nonviolent conflict resolution and reconciliation are still helpful today: I learned these principles from my Uncle MLK, my father AD King, and grandfather Daddy King. They are available HERE.

With God nothing is impossible. We shall overcome the sins of racism. View images and full article here.
