40 DAYS FOR LIFE: DAY 8: I want to fast, but ...

Deacon John,
"I want to fast, but ... I really love food, and it seems to be everywhere!"
If you're like me, you like salt, sugar, carbs and grease in food. If you don't like any those things, then fasting will be easy for you -- because you're probably a robot!
But seriously, we get asked about fasting a lot. Prayer and fasting are important aspects of 40 Days for Life – the two of them go together.
This follows from Christ’s admonition to the apostles that some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. And when it comes to abortion, we do need to fast!
Fasting is a challenge -- and Jesus provides an example with His 40 days in the desert.

So what’s the best way to fast? That’s an individual question that only you can answer. If you need some help, you can listen to a special edition of the 40 Days for Life podcast on fasting. In fact, it’s our most listened to podcast!
It’s called “I want to fast, but I really like food.” You can hear it at:
In a culture of plenty, fasting can be a source of tremendous spiritual growth as a way to remind ourselves of our dependence upon God.

Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So, too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
—Luke 10:30-34
Father, we are moved by the lesson of the Good Samaritan, who allowed compassion to influence him more than fear. Give us the same heart. Grant that we may never count the cost of standing up and speaking out for the unborn.
